Akwa Ibom State Government Appoints FTAN Financial Secretary, Mrs. Ime Udo, as Chairman of Akwa Ibom State Hotels and Tourism Board

The Akwa Ibom State Government has announced the appointment of Mrs. Ime Udo, the Financial Secretary of the Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN) and a member of its Governing Council, as the new Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Hotels and Tourism Board.

FTAN is the apex body for all private sector tourism associations and practitioners in Nigeria, and Mrs. Udo’s appointment underscores her remarkable leadership and active contribution to the growth of the nation’s tourism industry.

Mrs. Udo, who was also appointed in 2023 as the Honorary Special Adviser to His Excellency, Governor Umo Bassey Eno, on Tourism, is widely respected for her tireless efforts in promoting domestic tourism, strengthening industry capacity, and advocating for sustainable tourism practices.

Her new role is widely regarded by stakeholders as a strategic move to accelerate tourism development in Akwa Ibom State, in line with the government’s vision to position the state as a premier tourism destination in Nigeria’s South-South region.

Upon resumption of office, Mrs. Udo paid a maiden visit to the Board’s offices at Ewet Housing, where she called on management and staff to work together to propel the Board to greater heights. She commended the team for upholding high standards and pledged her commitment to achieving the Board’s objectives in line with the Governor’s Arise Agenda.

The Governing board of the Tourism apex body and other tourism stakeholders across the country have applauded her appointment, citing her proven track record, vast network, and dedication to fostering a vibrant and sustainable tourism sector. As Chairman, Mrs. Udo is expected to champion initiatives that will enhance hospitality standards, attract investments, and showcase Akwa Ibom State’s rich cultural and natural heritage.

Mrs. Udo expressed profound gratitude to Governor Umo Eno for entrusting her with this new responsibility, promising to work diligently to advance the Governor’s vision for the tourism sector.
