We must collaborate, not compete - Coker, NTDC Boss.


 FTAN  EXCOS partner with NTDC ON Tourism  Development 

The President of the Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria Mr. Nkereuwem Onung

 has expressed FTAN readiness to work with Director-General of Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation  Mr.Folorunsho Coker to develop Tourism in Nigeria.  

The President was speaking when he led the newly elected Excos to pay him a visit in his office, in Abuja.

In his opening speech, the FTAN President congratulated the NTDC Boss for his reappointment and thanked him for granting them an audience. 

He told the Director-General and his Management staff that the purpose of the visit was to introduce the newly elected FTAN Officials to him, thank him for his support for the Federation, and also seek for more Collaboration to develop Tourism.

He promised to support NTDC plans for re-appeal and re-enactment of the NTDC Act if both parties agree on the contents.

The President appealed to the Director-General to lend his voice in the removal of Tourism from the residual list to the concurrent list in the constitution.

The President informed the NTDC Boss of the plan by the Federation to organize a National Tourism 

Summit to deliberate on major issues affecting the Tourism sector in Nigeria.

He stressed that FTAN and NTDC need a strong Collaboration to move tourism forward. He added that FTAN is fully ready to work with NTDC to change the narrative. He equally used the opportunity to request for the Federation. 

Responding to FTAN President, NTDC Boss said  FTAN and NTDC represent the same purpose. 

Advised FTAN members to unite and speak with one voice to ensure that tourism is given positive attention by the Federal Government. 

He explained that the world is fast-changing, no longer strong pen and paperwork like before. Now and the future is digital, tourism practitioners in Nigeria should embrace the digital way to drive tourism.

He expressed his commitment to continue to explore the current trends in digital technology to develop domestic tourism.

The DG appealed to FTAN to support the NTDC bill on Tourism which he said it is for the benefit of both the private sectors and the Government. 

The NTDC boss also highlighted the achievements of some of the NTDC programs which include; Tour Nigeria, Nigeria  Flavours, and National Tourism Bureau. He said his administration will continue to use the programs to promote domestic tourism. 

He promised to have a quarterly meeting and annual retreat with FTAN for better Collaboration. And assured the delegation that the request for a bus will be captured in next year's budget of NTDC.
