FTAN'S BOYCOT OF UNWTO CONFERENCE: PRESS RELEASE

PRESS RELEASE

The attention of the Federation has been drawn to an article circulating on various Tourism platforms, written by Mr. Andrew Okungbowa, a member of ANJET.

The federation wishes to state as follows;

1) That the Federation wholeheartedly appreciates the stakeholders for standing by her during the imbroglio with the Minister and has expressed it through the last statement sent to the press and published in various media houses. (see attached)

2) The boycott of the UNWTO Conference was because the minister did not provide appropriate channels for how the industry would benefit from the conference. If there was an existing relationship, and if the federation was consulted correctly, we would have outlined the various ways the industry could draw benefit from the conference.

For instance, people that won the hackathon coin be properly introduced and shown how the award can become a mutually beneficial investment for them and the industry.

Without a clear direction and the existing neglect, we found no benefit for members to attend.

We regret that members could not benefit from the talks but it was a necessary sacrifice.

3) The BOT will meet and provide a statement about any of its member's presence during the conference If it is against the constitution of the Federation and will act accordingly.

4) Lastly, the federation is aware of her structures, constitutional powers, duties, and obligations to all and would stay clear on those established frameworks.

I, therefore extend to all stakeholders the best wishes of the President and the BOT Chairman during this yuletide season. Merry Christmas and Happy new year in advance.

Precious Okonji,

Secretary , FTAN
