FTAN HOLDS GOVERNING COUNCIL MEETING: ANNOUNCES DATE FOR 2023 AGM.

The Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria, the umbrella body for all the private sector in the tourism industry held its governing council meeting on the 10th of May, 2023, in the federal capital territory, Abuja. The meeting had in attendance, Chief Samuel Alabi, the Chairman BOT, and other board members. Also present were the national executive council members headed by the National President, Mr. Nkereuwem Onung, and presidents and secretaries of association members.

In his opening remark, the President, Mr. Nkereuwem, commended all stakeholders in the industry for their resilience and the spirit to survive in the midst of the harsh and unfair economic situation of the nation, especially in the industry. He advised all investors to keep protecting their businesses and also ensure that they operate within the purview of the law of the nation.

The highlight of the meeting was the announcement of the dates for the 3 significant events organized by the federation annually. One of the events is the 2023 Annual General Meeting of the federation which is also going to be an elective AGM. The last elective AGM was in 2021 and it ushered in the administration of Mr. Nkereuwem Onung as the President.

Mr. Onung's administration has brought a lot of transformations in the affairs of the private sector operators in the tourism industry. This election will see some officers recontest for their positions and new hands brought into the council.

The 2023 AGM will hold on the 20th of July, 2023 at the Nicon Luxury hotel, Abuja and the theme is "Tourism, Today and Tomorrow: Setting Agenda for the new administration" and the sub-theme is "Community Involvement in Tourism Development: Building Partnerships for Sustainable Tourism" . This theme is strategic as it will come up with an agenda to engage the incoming administration and develop the tourism industry.

Other annual events of the federation that will engage both the private and public sectors are the World Tourism Day celebration coming up on the 27th of September 2023 and the Nigeria Tourism Investors Forum and Exhibition, NTIFE, coming up in November 2023.
