Justina Ovat, Susan Akporiaye and others elected into ARSO/TC76/ Working Groups (WGs) as conveners and secretaries.

Recall that on the 2nd of May 2023, the President of FTAN, Mr. Nkereuwem Onung was elected to chair the Technical Committee for Tourism TC 76 of the African Organisation for Standardization (ARSO). Other Nigerians elected into ARSO positions were Mrs. Chidinma Ewuzie of Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON), Secretary of the Committee, and Dr. Adeoye Adedipe of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Vice Chairman, Technical Committee.

On the 17th of January 2024, the African Organisation for Standardization (ARSO) held its annual meeting to elect professionals into various Working Groups (WGs) of the Organisation. Contestants were drawn from various member African countries like Ghana, Botswana, Burkina Faso, DR Congo, South Africa, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tunisia, Cameroun, Uganda, Tanzania, South Sudan.

After the election, Mrs. Justina Ovat was elected Convener of the ARSO/TC76/WG1 – Tourist Information and Reception Services while Mrs. Susan Akporiaye was elected Convener of ARSO/TC76/WG6 – Online Travel Agencies (OTA). Other elected conveners from Nigeria include Mr. Tope Fajemirokun; ARSO/TC76/WG3 – Yacht Harbors, Bareboat charter, and Diving services.

Other professionals from Nigeria elected Secretaries of various working Groups include Mrs. Nana Yakubu; ARSO/TC76/WG2 – Adventure Tourism, Joseph Umoh; ARSO/TC76/WG5 – Accommodation Facilities and Mr. Sunday Olugbenga; ARSO/TC76/WG7 – Exhibition and Event.

There are 7 Working Groups and counterparts from other member African countries were elected as Convener and Secretaries of each group.

The African Organisation for Standardization (ARSO). was formed in 1977, with a focal mandate to harmonize African Standards and prioritize conformity Assessment and Procedures to reduce technical trade barriers, critical to the promotion of Intra -African and International trade, as well as powering the industrialization of Africa.

There are 43 African countries as members, making it one of the leading inter-governmental organizations in the continent.
