TOURISM MINISTER TO LEAD NIGERIA STAKEHOLDERS TO THE PRESTIGIOUS WORLD TRAVEL MARKET IN LONDON AFTER A DECADE OF ABSENCE.
On Wednesday, the
Honourable Minister of Tourism convened a meeting with key industry
stakeholders to finalize plans for Nigeria’s participation in the 2024 World
Travel Market (WTM) in London. This marks a significant milestone, as the
Ministry is set to lead the Nigerian delegation to this prestigious global
event for the first time in over a decade.
The meeting brought
together prominent representatives from various tourism bodies, including the
Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN), led by its President, Mr.
Nkereuwem Onung; the National Association of Nigeria Travel Agencies (NANTA),
led by its President, Mr. Yinka Folami; and the Nigeria Association of Tour
Operators (NATOP), led by its President, Hajia Bolaji Mustapha. Also in attendance
was Mrs. Ola Wright of the West Africa Tourism Organisation.
In her remarks, the
Honourable Minister expressed gratitude to NANTA for representing Nigeria at
the past two editions of the World Travel Market. She emphasized that her
primary goal for the 2024 edition is for the Ministry to take the lead in
coordinating the participation of Nigerian stakeholders, ensuring a unified and
impactful representation at the event. She also commended the President of FTAN
for facilitating the meeting and bringing stakeholders together to discuss
strategies for achieving this goal.
Mr. Nkereuwem Onung noted
that while NANTA had initially planned to attend the 2024 WTM as an independent
association, he is confident that the group will align its activities with the
Ministry’s overall plan. NANTA agreed to share its plans with the Ministry,
with the goal of developing a single, cohesive strategy to represent Nigeria at
the event.
The collaboration marks a
significant step towards ensuring that Nigeria’s presence at the World Travel
Market is both organized and highly visible, enhancing the country’s profile on
the global tourism stage.
