FTAN CLARIFIES NIHOTOUR DOCUMENT ON OUTCOME OF STRATEGIC MEETING

Abuja, 14 September 2026

The Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN) has taken note of the document currently in circulation titled “FTAN Areas of Concern with Respect to the NIHOTOUR Law,” issued by NIHOTOUR following the strategic meeting between both organisations on 9 September 2026.

FTAN wishes to clarify that while the issues listed as “FTAN’s Concerns” were indeed raised by the Federation, the responses presented under “NIHOTOUR’s Clarification” were positions expressed by NIHOTOUR during the meeting and were not agreed positions or resolutions of the meeting.
This is a disregard to the prior agreement to constitute a Joint Review Committee to review the grey areas in the NIHOTOUR Act 2022 and 2025 Regulations before any press releases.
Presenting those responses as though they constituted agreed outcomes does not accurately reflect the nature of the discussions and it is a breach of trust.

FTAN considers accurate and transparent documentation essential to building trust between both organisations. The manner in which the document has been presented could unfortunately create the impression that the outcome of the meeting was predetermined or selectively represented, which does little to strengthen confidence in the dialogue.

FTAN, however, remains committed to constructive engagement and is still open to the joint NIHOTOUR–FTAN committee agreed upon at the meeting, provided the process is transparent, genuine and representative, with both parties given a fair opportunity to deliberate on the issues and work towards a mutually acceptable way forward.
Thank you.

Signed
Precious Okonji
Secretary, FTAN
